Langaleswar: A 70-year-old resident of Malanbalikuti village, located within the Baliapal police jurisdiction in Balasore district, attempted to take his own life due to ongoing mistreatment from his son and daughter-in-law. This tragic decision followed a series of humiliations and physical confrontations he endured.
Debendra Behera was reportedly subjected to constant verbal and physical abuse from his son Gauranga and daughter-in-law Ranjita over minor issues. The situation escalated on Wednesday when a dispute arose regarding the sale of tender coconuts, leading to Gauranga allegedly assaulting his father and demanding he leave their home. Throughout this distressing episode, Debendra's wife chose not to intervene, which further deepened his feelings of despair.
In a desperate act, Debendra documented the abuse he had faced and affixed handwritten posters detailing his plight on the walls of various shops at Mandhata market. Later that evening, he consumed poison in a tragic attempt to end his suffering and is currently fighting for his life.
